Our group members support each other and the group by practicing Samu – 作務 – Zen work (literally means making tasks). We do samu on our sesshin retreats and at other times when needed. We rely on the wholehearted efforts of our group practitioners to volunteer and help us with various task, please contact us if you would be interested in finding out more about how you can help.
As a group activity it is a chance for sangha members to get together for samu and spend some quiet but active time together, and have some social time too and some extra sitting. Samu tasks can range from cleaning our dojo and communal areas to mending zafu cushions or zabuton mats, or preparing flowers for the Bustsudan altar.
There are also various digital samu tasks ranging from social media, editing and uploading zen teachings, researching, sending email newsletters and communicating with group members. In short there are several different samu tasks that people can help us with when they have time.
We would be very grateful if you consider taking on some samu work and supporting our Buddhist Sangha – if you are interested or would like to know more about the possibilities, please contact us by email.
